Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Plant Manager with a robust background in plywood manufacturing to oversee the daily operations of our production facility. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the technical, operational, and management aspects of plywood production, from machinery selection and plant optimization to workforce management and quality control. This role is critical to ensuring the efficiency, safety, and quality standards of our manufacturing processes while driving continuous improvements and meeting customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Management:
- Oversee the entire plywood manufacturing process, ensuring efficient production and high-quality output.
- Manage and optimize the operation of all plant machinery and equipment, ensuring uptime and proper maintenance to avoid any disruptions.
- Develop and implement effective production schedules to meet customer demands while maintaining cost control.
- Implement and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and improve production efficiency, throughput, and quality.
2. Manpower Management:
- Lead, train, and motivate a large team of production staff, supervisors, and managers to ensure optimal performance.
- Ensure proper staffing levels, including hiring, training, and development of employees.
- Foster a positive work culture focused on teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Implement strategies for workforce productivity and engagement, handling any personnel issues or concerns promptly.
3. Plant Machinery and Technical Management:
- Provide expertise in selecting, maintaining, and upgrading plant machinery to enhance operational efficiency and output.
- Manage plant equipment maintenance schedules and troubleshooting efforts to minimize downtime.
- Lead technical teams in projects involving plant expansion, machinery upgrades, and new installations.
4. Quality Control:
- Ensure the highest standards of plywood production are maintained by implementing strict quality control processes.
- Work closely with the quality team to develop and enforce quality standards, and monitor product quality at every stage of production.
- Address any quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions in a timely manner.
5. Health & Safety Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to health and safety standards, implementing safety policies and protocols.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
- Manage and respond to any safety incidents or hazards, ensuring compliance with local regulatory requirements.
6. Supply Chain & Inventory Management:
- Oversee the procurement and inventory management of raw materials to ensure smooth production flow.
- Collaborate with suppliers, logistics teams, and other departments to maintain optimal supply chain operations.
- Monitor and manage stock levels of key materials and finished goods to prevent production delays or surplus stock.
7. Customer Coordination and Satisfaction:
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key customers, understanding their requirements and ensuring products meet expectations.
- Address customer concerns, complaints, and product quality issues, working closely with the sales and customer service teams.
- Provide timely and accurate updates on production schedules, delivery timelines, and any potential delays.
8. Reporting & Documentation:
- Ensure accurate reporting of production metrics, inventory levels, and financial performance to senior management.
- Utilize reporting tools, such as ERP systems, to generate real-time reports on plant performance.
- Maintain comprehensive records on plant operations, quality inspections, maintenance schedules, and safety audits.
9. Project Management & Expansion:
- Lead plant expansion projects, ensuring timely completion within budget.
- Oversee the implementation of new manufacturing technologies, production processes, and machinery to drive operational excellence.
- Manage capital expenditure planning for new equipment, plant improvements, and expansion initiatives.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related field). A master’s degree or equivalent is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 15 - 20 years of experience in plywood manufacturing or related industries, with at least 5 years in a senior plant management role.
- Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the technical aspects of plywood production, including machinery, raw materials, processes, and quality control.
- Machinery Expertise: Proven expertise in selecting and maintaining machinery used in plywood manufacturing, as well as leading plant upgrades and technical projects.
- Manpower Management: Strong experience in managing large teams, including training, development, and performance management.
- Health & Safety Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations, with experience implementing safety policies in manufacturing environments.
- Supply Chain & Inventory Management: Strong understanding of supply chain processes, raw material management, and production scheduling.
- ERP Systems & Reporting: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP reporting tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle, etc.) for generating accurate and timely reports.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to coordinate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Leadership: Strong leadership qualities, including decision-making, problem-solving, and team-building capabilities.
- Project Management: Experience managing large-scale projects and expansions within a manufacturing plant.
Preferred Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of the Indian plywood manufacturing market, including local regulatory requirements and trends.
- Experience in driving automation and digital transformation in manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with sustainable manufacturing practices and environmentally-friendly production technologies.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position based at the plant location.
- Occasional travel to other plants, suppliers, or customer sites may be required.
- Availability to respond to emergencies or operational issues outside regular working hours. |
