Job Requirement

Position                : Shipping and Logistics Operator

Location               : Mumbai (Jogeshwari West)

Experience           : 6 - 8 Yrs

Salary Budget      : 7 - 10 LPA

Role Requirements :

  • Acting as a shipping and logistics operator from the Mumbai office, reporting directly to his/her peer (based in the office) on a full-time basis, including outside of working hours.
  • Whilst the Company has hundreds of transactions with revenues consistently over 100m USD, it operates with a ‘start up’, non-corporate mindset, constantly looking for disruptive workflow ideas that could assist incumbent processes, having staff help out each other in roles that are fluid, rather than set in one repetitive task.

The candidate must excel at the following skills:

  • A very high level of spoken and written English and rapid troubleshooting skills, taking initiative constantly.
  • Strong ability for inbox management - to prioritize and sort email correspondence in line with the Company’s communication protocols.
  • Approachable, polite, and friendly even whilst under pressure and heavy workloads – particularly as the existing staff has been with the Company for many years.
  • Integral, a team player to juniors and being able to operate without having the Owner present
  • Full-time telephone and WhatsApp correspondence with counterparties related to the business (service providers, suppliers, buyers, other parties) on invoicing, payments, etc.
  • Real-time internal communication and coordination of tasks within different areas in the Group (across different time zones - primarily, Middle/East and Africa).
  • A knowledge of metal trading is welcomed but not essential, though one must have a strong drive to learn and grow.
  • Willingness to understand the business in its entirety rather than just one aspect – finance, logistics, operations, sales, relationship management to name a few.
  • Key qualities for the role – accuracy, ability to operate under pressure in a fast-paced work environment with a high level of integrity, and ability to assume ownership and responsibility over the role.

Daily work would include the below:

  • Operating and managing the entire transport and logistics chain from origin to destination for the company’s cargo
  • Working alongside the Group’s long-standing partner freight forwarder in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to coordinate truck allocations, vessel allocations, cargo inspections, and shipping documents
  • Real-time communication with suppliers on truck requirements at origin and arrangement of the same with the partner freight forwarder
  • Arranging vessel allocations and filtering available options based on cost and contractual deadlines.
  • Managing and following up on cargo delivery deadlines.
  • Timely arrangement of shipping document release to buyers based on contractual and payment obligations being met.
  • Arrangement and oversight of cargo inspections at the destination based on a pre-defined process flow, with follow-up until all inspection documentation is received.

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

  • A minimum of a first-class Bachelor's degree from a first-class university– preferably in logistics, supply chain management, shipping, business, mathematics or science-related degrees.
  • Knowledge of shipping and logistics is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Previous job experience involved experience at a freight forwarder, shipping line, or logistics company dealing in international freight movements.
  • Well versed in general IT, MS Office, and Tally - no other technical knowledge required – ERP training given on the job.
  • Fast typing skills and highly efficient multi-tasking abilities.
  • Good verbal and written English skills are mandatory.
  • Asian language (Hindi and/or Gujarati) fluency.
  • Ability to adapt to different cultures (Central African counterparties on one end, blue chip Western customers on the other end).
